MASTERBUILT SMOKED BABY BACK RIBS

Updated: Jan 17, 2022

Every year I wait with great anticipation for the warmer days, the days when I can light my grill and start barbequing. This is the one thing that I have always found pleasure in and that is smoking meat over a charcoal grill. But now I live in a Condo and charcoal grills are not allowed, you must have an electric grill, so I invested in a Master Built Electric Smoker, and I must say that buying this grill is one of the best investments I have made.

Smoking meat is a longer process but let me tell you after using charcoal grills for years, I would rather use a smoker any day. The meat comes out of the smoker, smoked clear to the bone, and you can use the wood chips of your choice, me personally I like using the Applewood, but the Jack Daniels Hickory smoked is my second favorite wood chip to use. When smoking meat, you would season it just like you would if you were using any type of grill, but the difference is the way you would cook it.

Cooking in a smoker I smoke my ribs for 3 hours putting in the apple chips every 45 minutes during that 3 hours, after the 3 hours I remove the ribs from the smoker and before covering them in foil I add a tablespoon of orange or apple juice then cover them tightly with the foil and put them back in the smoker for 2 hours, there is no need to add chips because they are covered with foil. With this method your ribs will be so tender they will fall off the bone while on the bone. Try this recipe for your family guys, if you don’t have a Master Built any smoker will do. View the recipe and video below. Enjoy!

MASTERBUILT SMOKED BABY BACK RIBS

INGREDIENTS

3 Slabs of Baby Back Ribs

2 Jars of your Favorite Barbeque Sauce

SPICE RUB

2 Tablespoon of Paprika

1 Tablespoon of Sea Salt

1 Tablespoon of Cumin

2 Tablespoons of Garlic Powder

2 Tablespoons of Onion Powder

1 Tablespoon of Dry Mustard

1 Tablespoon of Chili Powder

1 Tablespoon of Black Pepper

1 Teaspoon of Ground Red Pepper

1/4 Cup of Brown Sugar

DIRECTIONS

PREHEAT GRILL

Wash ribs and remove skin like I showed in the video, make spice rub and rub on ribs on all sides to coat evenly. Place ribs in grill, if using MASTERBUILT or another smoker add wood chips at least every 45 minutes. But once you cover them in foil, wood chips are not needed. Cook for 3 hours.

Remove ribs and place in foil, add about a tablespoon of orange juice over ribs and wrap each rib in foil and place ribs back in the smoker cook for another 2 more hours. Remove meat, slice in one bone pieces and sauce on all sides. Place ribs in oven at 425F Degrees, so the sauce can glaze on the ribs for about 10 minutes. Enjoy!
